Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has made an appeal to factions in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to come together and rally behind the flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
He stressed that unity is key to the NPP's victory and urged all persons who will be elected national executives to unite the rank and file.
Mr Akufo-Addo said this when the Director of Communications hopeful of the NPP, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, paid a courtesy call on him in Accra on Wednesday, August 26, to officially inform him about his filing to contest for the Director of Communications position in the upcoming internal elections.
In his response, Mr Akufo-Addo said, "The elections breed competition; when the die is cast on October 1, and I am confident you will win. You have to bring everybody on board and unite all factions in this party behind our flagbearer to make sure he gets onto the seat in 2029. So I want to wish you the very best, and I am confident that on October 1, I will hear good news; I will be in Kumasi."
He added that "You are taking up one of the most challenging aspects of our fight back, the communications arena.
"To a large extent, whether we prevail or not will depend on the work that you are going to do, so I am happy that somebody of your quality and commitment has decided to take up this challenge. You have a big challenge ahead of you.
"That challenge is made more so by the fact that in 2028, come what may, we have to win this election, so the opportunity is 2028; let us grab it, and make sure that we bring NPP back into office."
The NPP goes to the polls on October 3 to elect its national executives as part of preparations ahead of the 2028 general elections.
The National Officers Elections Committee (NOEC) of the NPP said a total of 50 nomination forms had been purchased for the party’s 2026 National Officers Elections.
The Committee said the nomination period closed on Saturday, August 22, 2026, and described the exercise as successful and peaceful.
In a statement issued on Saturday, August 22, the NOEC said the 50 nomination forms were purchased across the nine national officer positions being contested.
The Committee said the close of nominations marks the commencement of the filing of completed nomination forms by aspirants.
